OAKLAND BLUES

World Pacific

March 1969

"Good Rockin'" Robinson et Lafayette "Thing" Thomas.

THE RATTLER

Arhoolie

July - August 1972

Quelques pépites parmi beaucoup d'autres : "I need a little spirit", "The rattler", "The judgement", "Lonesome train blues", "A tribute to my father".

THE DIRT ON THE GROUND

Arhoolie

December 1972

The hoodoo man", "Sundown", "Suffering with the lowdown blues", "Cold feeling".

Also on the Chris Strachwitz Arhoolie label, Dave Alexander is accompanied by the same two musicians than in "The rattler". As in the previous opus, he delivers an elegant and racy blues on the piano. More than ever, Dave shows the evidences of his originality and creativity as in the prodigious "The hoodoo man", "Sundown", "Suffering with the lowdown blues", "Cold feeling". From 1973, he performs regularly at the San Francisco Blues Festival - organized by Tom Mazzolini - before disappearing gradually. His personal life takes also a tragic turn : his wife shot him several times and his brother died in 1973 in unfamiliar circumstances.

THE RAVEN

Arhoolie

July - December 1972 / 1991

The dirt on the ground". The raven", "Fillmore Street boogie", "House built by the blues". On peut aussi ajouter "San Francisco can be such a lonely town" et "This is love".

In the early 70's, Dave Alexander, who converted to Islam, changed his name to Omar The Magnificent and Omar Khayyam. Finally, he chose the name of Omar Shariff before disappearing gradually in the following years. This CD of 17 tracks gathers a new session of 1991 (10 sides) and a few other tracks took from the 1972 LPs "The rattler" and "The dirt on the ground". This new 1991 session allows to realize how the skills of this exceptional pianist remain unchanged. As such, the first three songs on the CD are sparkling masterpieces : "The raven", "Fillmore Street boogie", "House built by the blues". We can also add "San Francisco can be such a lonely town" and "This is love".

BLACK WIDOW SPIDER

Have Mercy

1993
