Né en Arkansas, il grandit à Memphis après la séparation de ses parents puis s'installe à Chicago dans le South Side. Abb s'insère dans la scène blues locale jouant avec Earl Hooker, Muddy Waters, Otis Rush, Billy "The Kid" Emerson et surtout Howlin' Wolf dont il sera le saxophoniste pendant 4 ans. Par la suite, il travaille aux côtés d'Albert Collins, Lonnie Brooks, Buddy Guy, Eddy Clearwater. Abb sera pendant 18 ans le saxophoniste attitré de Dave Weld. Moins en vue qu'A.C. Reed ou Eddie Shaw, il n'a presque pas enregistré en leader : un simple pour Rooster en 1983 et ce seul album auto-produit en 1989. Un album court mais excellent qui vaut la peine d'être recherché. Un programme inspiré de Chicago Blues avec des éléments Funk où Abb donne le meilleur de lui-même.
Born in Arkansas, he grew up in Memphis after his parents separated and then moved to Chicago in the South Side. Abb inserts himself into the local blues scene playing with Earl Hooker, Muddy Waters, Otis Rush, Billy "The Kid" Emerson and especially Howlin' Wolf, for whom he was the saxophonist for 4 years. Subsequently, he worked alongside Albert Collins, Lonnie Brooks, Buddy Guy, Eddy Clearwater. Abb was Dave Weld's regular saxophonist for 18 years. Less prominent than A.C. Reed or Eddie Shaw, he hardly recorded as leader : a single for Rooster in 1983 and this only self-produced album in 1989. A short but excellent album worth seeking out. An inspired program of Chicago Blues with Funk elements where Abb gives the best of himself.
