Fils du légendaire bluesman Muddy Waters, William travaille d'abord dans l'enseignement avant de se lancer dans une carrière musicale en 1996. Il forme alors le Stone Cold Blues Band et tourne dans la région d'Atlanta. Puis, en solitaire, il enregistre ce premier disque de reprises (de son père et d'autres bluesmen) en compagnie de Bob Margolin et Blind Mississippi Morris. Bon chanteur, il donne d'intéressantes versions de ces célèbres morceaux. Son of legendary bluesman Muddy Waters, William first worked as a teacher before embarking on a musical career in 1996. So, he formed the Stone Cold Blues Band and toured the Atlanta area. Then, alone, he recorded this first cover album (of his father and other bluesmen) with Bob Margolin and Blind Mississippi Morris. Good singer, he gives interesting versions of these famous songs. |

Cet excellent album - le premier pour le label Blind Pig - est avantageusement partagé entre reprises et compositions personnelles. De plus, Big Bill - très bon chanteur - est supporté par de superbes musiciens : Bob Margolin (également producteur), Robert Stroger, Pinetop Perkins, Paul Oscher et Willie Smith. Un programme intense dont on retient notamment "Diamonds at your feet", "Left hand blues", "I just keep lovin' her", "Sloppy drunk", "Baby how long" et le superbe titre final "Rising son". This excellent album - the first for the Blind Pig label - is advantageously shared between covers and personal compositions. Moreover, Big Bill - a very good singer - is supported by superb musicians : Bob Margolin (also producer), Robert Stroger, Pinetop Perkins, Paul Oscher and Willie Smith. An intense program of which we retain in particular "Diamonds at your feet", "Left hand blues", "I just keep lovin' her", "Sloppy drunk", "Baby how long" and the superb final title "Rising son". |

Pour ce second album chez Blind Pig, Big Bill Morganfield est cette fois produit par Dick Shurman. Une tracklist très variée qui emprunte à de nombreux styles différents (Chicago Blues, Jump Blues, Gospel, Folk-Blues) avec de remarquables moments : "Roll with me", "People sure acts funny", "Ramblin' mind", "Trace of you", "Troubles", "Little angel". On note aussi l'apparition de Taj Mahal sur deux titres ("Strong man holler" et "You're gonna miss me"). For this second album on Blind Pig, Big Bill Morganfield is this time produced by Dick Shurman. A very varied tracklist that borrows from many different styles (Chicago Blues, Jump Blues, Gospel, Folk-Blues) with remarkable moments : "Roll with me", "People sure acts funny", "Ramblin' mind", "Trace of you", "Troubles", "Little angel". Pour son propre label Black Shuck qu'il vient de monter, Big Bill Morganfield délivre encore un formidable album de Chicago Blues. Bien épaulé par ses musiciens (Steve Guyger à l'harmonica) et par ses producteurs (Bob Margolin et Brian Bisesi), il donne d'excellents morceaux comme "Too late brother", "High gas prices", "Born lover", "I play dirty", "Lonesome lonely blues". For his own Black Shuck label which he has just founded, Big Bill Morganfield is still delivering a formidable Chicago Blues album. Well supported by his musicians (Steve Guyger on harmonica) and by his producers (Bob Margolin and Brian Bisesi), he gives excellent songs like "Too late brother", "High gas prices", "Born lover", "I play dirty", "Lonesome lonely blues". |

Un bon programme de Chicago Blues traditionnel produit par Colin Linden. Un album cependant un peu moins intense que ses précédentes livraisons. On peut retenir quelques bons moments comme "Devil at my door", "Money's gettin' cheaper", "No butter for my grits", "Tight things", "Son of the blues". A good program of traditional Chicago Blues produced by Colin Linden. An album however a little less intense than his previous installments. We can retain some nice moments like "Devil at my door", "Money's gettin' cheaper", "No butter for my grits", "Tight things", "Son of the blues". |

Dans la parfaite continuation de "Blues with a mood", ce "Bloodstains on the wall" reprend ce même style de Chicago Blues classique mais joué avec compétence. Bon chanteur et joueur de slide-guitare inspiré, il propose de très bons titres comme "Lost without love", "Help someone", "Bloodstains on the wall", "Keep on loving me" ou encore "Hold me baby" et sa rythmique hip-hop. On note que, pour la première fois, Big Bill Morganfield est son propre producteur. In the perfect continuation of "Blues with a mood", this "Bloodstains on the wall" takes up this same classic Chicago Blues style but played with skill. Good singer and inspired slide-guitar player, he offers very good titles like "Lost without love", "Help someone", "Bloodstains on the wall", "Keep on loving me" or even "Hold me baby" and its hip-hop rhythm. We note that, for the first time, Big Bill Morganfield is his own producer. |
