Natif du Mississippi, il a combattu dans le Pacifique pendant la guerre. Après celle-ci, il s'installe à Memphis en 1946 et devient un guitariste de la scène locale. Il s'associe notamment avec le saxophoniste Ed Kirby (alias Prince Gabe) et enregistre pour le label Sun en 1957 une poignée de titres réédités dans diverses anthologies : "Mean old gin", "Blue nights" et surtout "Gonna break that lock". Ces morceaux relèvent plutôt du Rock & Roll naissant plus que du Memphis Blues.
A native of Mississippi, he fought in the Pacific during the war. After this, he moved to Memphis in 1946 and became a guitarist on the local scene. He notably associated with saxophonist Ed Kirby (aka Prince Gabe) and recorded for the Sun label in 1957 a handful of titles reissued in various anthologies : "Mean old gin", “Blue nights” and especially “Gonna break that lock”. These pieces are more emerging Rock & Roll more than Memphis Blues.

Il y a six titres de Lucky produit par Willie Mitchell parmi lesquels les excellents "Goofer dust", "Stop arguing over me", "Miss Betty Green", "You better mind". Derrière Lucky, on trouve les superbes sidemen de l'écurie Hi : Charles, Leroy & Mabon Hodges et Howard Grimes.
This anthology which includes titles by Big Lucky Carter, Big Amos Patton and Don Hines is really worth listening to. There are six titles by Lucky produced by Willie Mitchell including the excellent “Goofer dust”, “Stop arguing over me”, “Miss Betty Green”, “You better mind”. Behind Lucky, we find the superb sidemen of the Hi team : Charles, Leroy & Mabon Hodges and Howard Grimes.
