Carolina Slim a enregistré sous différents pseudonymes comme Country Paul, Jammin' Jim, Lazy Slim Jim, Paul Howard. Influencé aussi bien par Blind Boy Fuller que par Lightnin' Hopkins, cet excellent guitariste est capable d'aborder différents styles. Musicien itinérant sur la côte est, il s'installe à Newark (New Jersey) en 1950. En tout, Carolina Slim a gravé 27 morceaux en l'espace de deux ans pour les labels Acorn / Savoy et King. On peut entendre ce singulier bluesman à la guitare acoustique ou à la guitare électrique avec un égal bonheur, parfois accompagné d'un washboard ou d'une batterie. Son oeuvre est maigre mais parsemée de sommets comme "Mama's boogie", "Pleading blues", "Carolina boogie", "Your picture done faded", "Blues go away from me", "Worry you off my mind". Il meurt prématurément - à 30 ans - d'un arrêt cardiaque pendant une opération chirurgicale. Bien que tous ces recueils soient recommandables, les CD Document et EPM rassemblent l'intégralité de son travail.

An itinerant musician on the east coast, he settled in Newark (New Jersey) in 1950. In all, Carolina Slim has recorded 27 songs in the space of two years for the Acorn / Savoy and King labels. You can hear this singular bluesman on acoustic guitar or electric guitar with equal happiness, sometimes accompanied by a washboard or a drums. His work is thin but dotted with summits like "Mama's boogie", "Pleading blues", "Carolina boogie", "Your picture done faded", "Blues go away from me", "Worry you off my mind". He dies prematurely - at age 30 - from cardiac arrest during a surgical operation. Although all these collections are recommendable, the Document and EPM CD gather all of his work.
