1960 - 1971

Né dans une famille de musiciens (son père joue de la guitare, sa mère chante le gospel), Eddie apprend très jeune la guitare et l'harmonica. Il s'installe à Chicago en 1954 et cotoie "Little" Mack Simmons, "Sonny Boy" Williamson, Detroit Junior et Golden "Big" Wheeler. En 1960, il trouve la possibilité de graver ses premiers morceaux pour le label J.O.B : "Love you baby", "Shakin' inside" et "Lonely man". L'année suivante, ses cinq enfants meurent dans un incendie et il s'éloigne un temps de la musique. Eddie revient pourtant avec un superbe simple pour Conduc en 1969 sous la supervision de Leo Austell : "Please Mr DJ" et "Are you pushed to love" accompagné de sa soeur Mae Bee May. Puis, il enregistre pour les labels Big Wheel ("I talk too much") et Jay-V (l'excellent "Get off my back").

He moved to Chicago in 1954 and rubbed shoulders with "Little" Mack Simmons, "Sonny Boy" Williamson, Detroit Junior and Golden "Big" Wheeler. In 1960, he finds the possibility of recording his first tracks for the J.O.B label : "Love you baby", "Shakin' inside" and "Lonely man". The following year, his five children died in a fire and he moved away from music for a while. Eddie comes back though with a superb single for Conduc in 1969 under the supervision of Leo Austell : "Please Mr DJ" and "Are you pushed to love" accompanied by his sister Mae Bee May. Then, he recorded for the Big Wheel ("I talk too much") and Jay-V (the excellent "Get off my back") labels.

Au milieu des années 70, Eddie était devenu le guitariste de Koko Taylor (il jouera avec elle une vingtaine d'années environ). Toujours actif sur le circuit, il retrouve une opportunité solide d'enregistrer en studio avec cet album. Parfaitement produit par Marcel Vos et Steve Wisner, Eddie propose un remarquable album, montre qu'il est un excellent chanteur et un superbe guitariste dans un style proche de B.B. King. Sa soeur Mae Bee May participe également à l'album. Un programme de Chicago Blues puissant et inspiré avec des moments fabuleux comme "When you find a fool", "4.99 pounds", "Love at first sight", "Buttermilk and cornbread", "Able Mae Bee", "Laundromat blues". Le disque est édité sur le label néerlandais Double Trouble. Sur la réédition CD de Black Magic, on trouve l'ajout de trois titres inédits.

By the mid-1970's, Eddie had become Koko Taylor's guitarist (he will play with her for about twenty years). Still active on the circuit, he finds a solid opportunity to record in the studio with this album. Perfectly produced by Marcel Vos and Steve Wisner, Eddie offers a remarkable album, shows that he is an excellent singer and a superb guitarist in a style close to B.B. King. His sister Mae Bee May also participates in the album. A powerful and inspired Chicago Blues program with fabulous moments like "When you find a fool", "4.99 pounds", "Love at first sight", "Buttermilk and cornbread", "Able Mae Bee", "Laundromat blues". The album is issued on the dutch label Double Trouble. On the Black Magic CD reissue, there are three unreleased tracks added.

Il s'agit d'un album du groupe régulier de Koko Taylor produit par Chicago Beau pour un label japonais. Il regroupe Jim Dortch, Eddie King, James Johnson, Jerry Murphy et Frank Alexander. Une tracklist entre Blues contemporain et Funk dans laquelle Eddie King et James Johnson se partagent les parties chantées et les solos de guitare. Un programme plaisant quoiqu'inégal avec de bons moments comme "Lucinda", "Boogie blues", "Midnight sunrise" (chanté par Deitra Farr), "Bow legs", "Sadie".

This is an album by Koko Taylor's regular band produced by Chicago Beau for a japanese label. It brings together Jim Dortch, Eddie King, James Johnson, Jerry Murphy and Frank Alexander. A tracklist between contemporary Blues and Funk in which Eddie King and James Johnson share the vocal parts and the guitar solos. Cet album a été produit par Joe & Sable Roesch pour le label éponyme. Eddie King s'y montre en grande forme, impérial au chant et à la guitare bien épaulé notamment par une superbe section cuivres (Alan Rubin, Birch Johnson, Lou Marini, Ronnie Cuber). En dépit d'un dessin de pochette assez moche, il s'agit d'un album remarquable parsemé de superbes réussites comme "Kitty kat", "I like the feeling", "Another cow dead tonight", "Walk right on in", "Never loved a woman".

This album was produced by Joe & Sable Roesch for the eponymous label. Eddie King is there in great shape, imperial on vocals and guitar, well supported in particular by a superb horn section (Alan Rubin, Birch Johnson, Lou Marini, Ronnie Cuber). Despite a rather ugly cover art, this is a remarkable album sprinkled with superb achievements like "Kitty kat", "I like the feeling", "Another cow dead tonight", "Walk right on in", "Never loved a woman".
