Disque produit par Pete Welding rassemblant Charlie Musselwhite, Skip Rose, Louis Myers, Freddie Roulette, Jack Meyers et Fred Below. On trouve quelques beaux instrumentaux ("Coming home baby", "Summertime") et plusieurs titres chantés par Louis Myers, ornés également de sa sublime guitare. Musicalement, l'ensemble n'est pas toujours très abouti et sonne parfois un peu confus.

There are some beautiful instrumentals ("Coming home baby", "Summertime") and several songs sung by Louis Myers, also adorned with his sublime guitar. Musically, the whole is not always well rendered and sometimes sounds a little confused.

Né dans la banlieue de Chicago, Freddie démarre réellement sa carrière en accompagnant Earl Hooker (il participe à l'album "Two bugs and a roach") dès le milieu des années 60. Il se spécialise rapidement dans la lap steel guitar. Il joue ensuite derrière Charlie Musselwhite ("Tennessee woman", "Memphis Tennessee") puis au sein du groupe des Chicago Blue Stars (avec lesquels il participe au festival d'Ann Arbor en 1969). Au début des années 70, il se fixe à San Francisco et collabore régulièrement avec Luther Tucker et Harvey Mandel. Ce premier album solo est d'ailleurs produit par Mandel. Freddie Roulette y montre son immense talent à lap steel guitar, exploitant toutes les ressources de l'instrument. Un album entièrement instrumental qui compte la participation de Don "Sugarcane" Harris au violon. On peut ressortir dans un style entre Blues et Jazz, "Del Conto shuffle", "Cause and effect", "Mr Roulette". Un album surprenant et profondément original.
Born in the suburbs of Chicago, Freddie really began his career by accompanying Earl Hooker (he participates in the "Two bugs and a roach" album) in the mid-60's. He quickly specialized in lap steel guitar. He then played behind Charlie Musselwhite ("Tennessee woman", "Memphis Tennessee") then in the Chicago Blue Stars group (with whom he participated in the Ann Arbor festival in 1969). At the beginning of the 1970's, he settled in San Francisco and collaborated regularly with Luther Tucker and Harvey Mandel. This first solo album is also produced by Mandel. Freddie Roulette shows his immense talent on lap steel guitar, exploiting all the resources of the instrument. An entirely instrumental album which includes the participation of Don "Sugarcane" Harris on violin. We can emerge in a style between Blues and Jazz, "Del Conto shuffle", "Cause and effect", "Mr Roulette". A surprising and deeply original album.

Un programme original mais inégal avec de bons moments comme "Back in Chicago", "The thrill is gone", "You're gonna need me" ou la longue version de "Laundry mat blues".
A deeply original musician who has often remained in the shadows, Freddie Roulette returns to the forefront with this Blues album produced by Larry Hoffman. Cette fois, Freddie Roulette est associé aux Holmes Brothers et Rudy Costa et produit par Petra Hanisch. Un album déconcertant, très hétérogène dans lequel il s'essaie à différents styles bien éloignés du Blues (à l'exception peut être de "Everybody wants to go to heaven" ou de "You don't love me"). Peu convaicant.
This time, Freddie Roulette is associated with the Holmes Brothers and Rudy Costa and produced by Petra Hanisch. A disconcerting, very heterogeneous album in which he tries to different styles far removed from the Blues (with the possible exception of "Everybody wants to go to heaven" or "You don't love me"). Not very convincing.

Pour ce second album pour Tradition & Moderne, Freddie pioches dans de nombreux genres musicaux différents ce qui rend l'écoute totalement déconcertante. Chanteur limité, guitariste exceptionnel, il délivre ici un album inégal. On peut trouver de beaux moments de guitare mais l'album peut décevoir l'amateur de blues.
For this second album for Tradition & Moderne, Freddie draws on many different musical genres which makes listening totally disconcerting. Limited singer, exceptional guitarist, he delivers here an uneven album. We can find nice guitar moments but the album can disappoint the blues lover.

Ce dernier album réalisé sous la supervision de Michael Borbridge et d'Harvey Mandel revient au Blues. Freddie chante sur deux titres et laisse le chant à Kathi Mac Donald, Davey Patterson et Chris Cobb sur les autres morceaux. Un programme de Blues intéressant dans lequel Freddie montre qu'il reste un superbe joueur de lap steel guitar.
This latest album, produced under the supervision of Michael Borbridge and Harvey Mandel, returns to the Blues. Freddie sings on two tracks and leaves the vocals to Kathi Mac Donald, Davey Patterson and Chris Cobb on other tracks. An interesting Blues program in which Freddie shows that he remains a superb lap steel guitar player.
