Représentant du Hill Country Blues comme R.L. Burnside, on ne dispose que de peu d'éléments biographiques concernant Junior Kimbrough. Il enregistre ses premiers morceaux en 1966 à Memphis sous le nom de Junior Kimbell. Ces titres étaient initialement destinés au label Goldwax de Quinton Claunch mais restèrent inédits jusqu'en 2009 (finalement édités grâce à Bruce Watson). On découvre le style puissant et hypnotique de ce superbe bluesman avec "Lonesome in my home", "Feels so good", "Feels so bad". Representative of the Hill Country Blues like R.L. Burnside, there are few biographical details about Junior Kimbrough. He records his first songs in 1966 in Memphis as Junior Kimbell. These tracks were originally intended for Quinton Claunch's Goldwax label but remained unreleased until 2009 (finally issued thanks to Bruce Watson). We discover the powerful and hypnotic style of this superb bluesman with "Lonesome in my home", "Feels so good", "Feels so bad". |

Ce disque regroupe deux morceaux issus de la séance précédente produite par Sylvester Oliver et David Evans et des titres enregistrés en aout 1988 avec Earl "Little Joe" Ayers (basse) et Allabu Juju alias Winston Doxey (batterie). Ces derniers morceaux - également produits par Oliver - devaient intialement paraitre chez High Water mais restèrent inédits. Un programme intéressant mais parfois confus et répétitif. This album includes two tracks from the previous session produced by Sylvester Oliver and David Evans and titles recorded in august 1988 with Earl "Little Joe" Ayers (bass) and Allabu Juju aka Winston Doxey (drums). Un programme hétérogène et inégal avec de bons moments comme "I gotta try you girl", "I cried last night" et "Keep on draggin'". This CD brings together sessions captured throughout the 90's by Matthew Johnson, Bruce Watson, Robert Palmer, John Herman and Robert Norris. Junior often plays here accompanied by Gary Burnside, Kenny Malone, Kenny Brown and Dale Beavers. A heterogeneous and uneven program with good moments like "I gotta try you girl", "I cried last night" and "Keep on draggin'". |

Enregistré et produit par Robert Palmer, ce "All night long" est clairement le meilleur album de la modeste discographie de Junior Kimbrough. Il joue et chante son blues avec un feeling remarquable, superbement accompagné par Gary Burnside (fils de R.L. Burnside) et Kenny Malone. Un excellent opus de Delta Blues ou plus exactement de Hill Country Blues : une musique hypnotique, excitante, très expressive. On apprécie les magnifiques "Work me baby", "Stay all night", "Meet me in the city", "All night long", "Nobody but you". Recorded and produced by Robert Palmer, this "All night long" is clearly the best album of Junior Kimbrough's modest discography. He plays and sings his blues with a remarkable feeling, superbly accompanied by Gary Burnside (son of R.L. Burnside) and Kenny Malone. An excellent opus of Delta Blues or more exactly of Hill Country Blues : hypnotic, exciting, very expressive music. We appreciate the magnificent "Work me baby", "Stay all night", "Meet me in the city", "All night long", "Nobody but you". |
