Encouragé par ses parents, Kevin Moore s'intéresse à la musique dès l'enfance. Il apprend très vite la guitare et devient au début des années 70 le guitariste de "Papa" John Creach collaborant avec lui sur quatre albums. Sous son véritable nom, il propose ce premier album pour le label Chocolate City (filiale de Casablanca Records). Il s'agit d'un disque curieux entre Soul, Funk et Jazz plutôt intéressant. Encouraged by his parents, Kevin Moore has been interested in music since childhood. He learned the guitar very quickly and in the early 70s became the guitarist of "Papa" John Creach collaborating with him on four albums. Under his real name, he offers this first album for the Chocolate City label (subsidiary of Casablanca Records). This is a curious disc between Soul, Funk and Jazz rather interesting. |

KEB' MO'Epic - Okeh 1994 |
Après avoir joué avec le Whodunit Band et dans la comédie musicale "Spunk", il reprend sa carrière solo sous le pseudonyme de Keb' Mo'. En fait, à la suite des rééditions de Robert Johnson qui remportèrent un grand succès, il fallait trouver un artiste qui lui ressemble pour bénéficier de ce courant d'interêt du public. Keb' Mo' joue ici guitare et harmonica (il brille à la slide) et est parfois rejoint par un groupe complet. Sous la supervision du producteur John Porter, il joue entre Blues et Americana dans un style qu'on pourrait rapprocher de celui de Taj Mahal. After playing with the Whodunit Band and in the musical "Spunk", he resumed his solo career under the pseudonym of Keb' Mo'. In fact, following Robert Johnson's reissues which won a great success, it was necessary to find an artist who resembled him to benefit from this current of public interest. Keb' Mo' plays guitar and harmonica here (he shines on the slide) and is sometimes joined by a complete band. Under the supervision of producer John Porter, he plays between Blues and Americana in a style that could be compared to that of Taj Mahal. |

This boring album is dominated by commercial ballads between Pop and Americana and contains less Blues than usual. We can point out, however, an original cover of "It hurts me too" and the catchy "Stand up (and be strong)" in this too flat program. |

Produit par Kevin Mac Cormick (également bassiste), ce nouvel album se place dans la continuité du précédent, délaissant le Blues pour s'ouvrir à d'autres styles : un excellent morceau d'ouverture "Everybody be yoself" dans la tradition louisianaise, une belle reprise de Bill Withers "Grandma's hands" chantée avec Barbara Morrison, une tentative Jazz avec "The flat fleet floogie" mais le programme restant demeure bien ennuyeux. Produced by Kevin Mac Cormick (also bassist), this new album is a continuation of the previous one, abandoning the Blues to open up to other styles : an excellent opening track "Everybody be yoself" in the Louisiana tradition, a beautiful cover of Bill Withers "Grandma's hands" sung with Barbara Morrison, a Jazz attempt with "The flat fleet floogie" but the remaining program remains quite boring. |

Keb' Mo' a rempli cet album de reprises de protest-songs célèbres (au moment de la réélection de George W. Bush pour un second mandat) un peu à la manière de Josh White dans les années 40-50. Il reprend donc Bob Dylan, Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway, Stephen Stills, John Lennon dans un style très uniforme et plat. Keb' Mo' has filled this album with covers of famous protest songs (at the time of George W. Bush's re-election for a second term) a bit like Josh White in the 1940's and 1950's. He therefore covers Bob Dylan, Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway, Stephen Stills, John Lennon in a very uniform and flat style. |

"Don't leave me here", "She knows how to rock me", "Shake me in your arms", des reprises originales de "Squeeze box" (composée par Pete Townshend) et "Waiting on the world to change" (composée par John Mayer) figurent parmi les meilleurs moments de cet opus sympathique. Association of Taj Mahal and Keb'Mo in a Blues context with contemporary influences. The production sometimes seems a bit heavy and invasive. "Don't leave me here", "She knows how to rock me", "Shake me in your arms", original covers of "Squeeze box" (composed by Pete Townshend) and "Waiting on the world to change" (composed by John Mayer) are among the best moments of this sympathetic opus. |
