Né à Detroit, il grandit à Goleta en Californie. Puis en 1974, il s'installe à Austin (Texas) où il rencontre Jimmie Vaughan. Les deux hommes forment The Fabulous Thunderbirds cette même année dont Kim est l'indéfectible chanteur-harmoniciste depuis le début. En parallèle de cette activité, il a démarré une carrière solo au début des années 90. Bon chanteur et harmoniciste, Kim propose ici une majorité de reprises plutôt correctes et quelques rares compositions personnelles. Il manque certainement un peu d'inspiration et de flamme à cet album honorable. On retient néanmoins "She moves me", "Hush oh hush", "Hunch rhythm", "Boogie all night". Quelques beaux guitaristes derrière Kim : Rusty Zinn, Derek O'Brien, Duke Robillard, Junior Watson.

In parallel with this activity, he started a solo career in the early 90's. Good singer and harmonicist, Kim proposes here a majority of rather decent covers and some rare personal compositions. It certainly lacks a little inspiration and flame to this honorable album. We can nevertheless point out "She moves me", "Hush oh hush", "Hunch rhythm", "Boogie all night". Some beautiful guitarists behind Kim : Rusty Zinn, Derek O'Brien, Duke Robillard, Junior Watson.

Il s'agit d'un album de reprises de standards Blues et Rhythm & Blues (à l'exception de deux compositions originales de Kim Wilson). Dans l'ensemble, ces morceaux sont joués avec application et feeling et forment une sorte d'hommage de Kim Wilson au Blues qu'il aime. Derrière Kim, on trouve des musiciens attentifs : Fred Kaplan (également co-producteur), Rusty Zinn, Kid Ramos, Larry Taylor, Richard Innes, Junior Watson, Tom Fabre, Scott Steen. Il existe aussi un coffret 3 CDs reprenant l'intégralité des séances constitutives de "My blues" : prises alternatives, titres inédits,... A conseiller aux fans confirmés de Kim Wilson. D'autre part, on trouve aussi "Kim's mix", une autre version de l'album avec un choix de titres différent.
This is an album of Blues and Rhythm & Blues standard covers (with the exception of two original compositions by Kim Wilson). All in all, these songs are played with application and feeling and form a tribute to Blues that Kim Wilson loves. Behind Kim, there are attentive musicians : Fred Kaplan (also co-producer), Rusty Zinn, Kid Ramos, Larry Taylor, Richard Innes, Junior Watson, Tom Fabre, Scott Steen. There is also a box-set of 3 CDs containing the entirety of the constituent sessions of "My blues" : alternative takes, new titles, ... To advise to confirmed fans of Kim Wilson. En septembre 2000, le producteur Mark Carpentieri propose à Big Jack Johnson de réaliser un album acoustique. Il l'associe, alors, avec l'harmoniciste Kim Wilson. Enregistré à Memphis, comme le titre le suggère, il en résulte un disque inégal mais plutôt intéressant. On retrouve, ici, quelques compositions personnelles de Big Jack ainsi que des reprises de standards ("Smokestack lightning" et "My babe" parmi les meilleurs).
In september 2000, producer Mark Carpentieri offers Big Jack Johnson to record an acoustic album. Then, he associates Big Jack with harpist Kim Wilson. Cut in Memphis, as the title suggests, the result is an uneven but interesting CD. We can find here several Big Jack's personal compositions and some standard covers ("Smokestack lightning" and "My babe" among the best).

Il s'agit d'un bel hommage - produit par David Earl et Steve Gomes - faisant parfaitement revivre l'oeuvre du vénérable bluesman. Les deux leaders sont en forme et proposent un programme valant l'écoute. Pourtant, cet album manque un peu d'originalité et de flamme.
Record tribute to Muddy Waters for the centenary of his birth bringing together his son Mud Morganfield and harmonica player Kim Wilson. This is a beautiful tribute - produced by David Earl and Steve Gomes - bringing the venerable bluesman to life. Both leaders are in good shape and offer a program worth listening. Quelques bons moments : "No love in my heart", "Searched all over", "Blue and lonesome".
As usual, Kim Wilson covers the Blues that he loves with taste and respect. Good singer and excellent harmonica player, he gives here an effective overview of his possibilities accompanied by first-rate sidemen (Big Jon Atkinson, Billy Flynn, Nathan James, Barrelhouse Chuck). Some good moments : "No love in my heart", "Searched all over", "Blue and lonesome".

Son chant et son jeu d'harmonica n'ont jamais été aussi aboutis dans un style entre blues terrien ("No place to go") et blues West Coast ("You've been goofing"). Ses reprises sont inspirées mais ses propres compositions méritent également l'écoute : "Wingin' it", "Play me", "I'm sorry", "Out of the fryin' pan". Sans aucun doute, son meilleur album jusqu'à présent.
This new album compiles the various titles recorded by Kim Wilson in the studios of Big Jon Atkinson for years. With the latter - guitarist and co-producer - Kim is surrounded by remarkable musicians like Billy Flynn, Rusty Zinn, Jonny Viau, Barrelhouse Chuck, Marty Dodson.
