Né dans le Delta du Mississippi, troisième de onze enfants, Ernest apprend la guitare avec son père et grandit en Louisiane. Installé à Chicago en 1958, il devient chanteur et se produit avec Byther Smith, Howlin' Wolf, Tyrone Davis, Little Milton. Mais, c'est à New York qu'il pourra enregistrer son premier simple ("I feel alright", "I'm so tired") pour le label Old Town d'Hy Weiss. De retour à Chicago, il enregistre un autre simple pour Barry en 1965 dont "Hold it baby" est repris sur ce CD.

Born in the Mississippi Delta, third of eleven children, Ernest learned guitar from his father and grew up in Louisiana. Installed in Chicago in 1958, he became a singer and performs with Byther Smith, Howlin' Wolf, Tyrone Davis, Little Milton. But it was in New York that he recorded his first single ("I feel alright", "I'm so tired") for the Old Town label run by Hy Weiss. Back in Chicago, he recorded another single for Barry in 1965, including "Hold it baby" which is included on this CD.

Pour le label Fat Possum, Ernest délivre un superbe album entre Soul et Blues où sa voix magnifique fait merveille. Bien accompagné par des musiciens attentifs et un producteur compétent (Andy Kaulkin), il brille particulièrement sur "Suffer and stay", "Blues conviction", "Contentement", "Till the day I die", "Wood rat". Malheureusement, quelques jours après avoir terminé cet album, il décède dans un accident de voiture.

For Fat Possum label, Ernest delivers a superb album between Soul and Blues where his magnificent voice works wonders. Well accompanied by attentive musicians and a competent producer (Andy Kaulkin), he particularly shines on "Suffer and stay", "Blues conviction", "Contentement", "Till the day I die", "Wood rat". Unfortunately, a few days after finishing this album, he died in a car accident.
