I PITY THE FOOL : THE DUKE RECORDS STORYOne Day Music 1959 - 1961 |
Une superbe relecture de son "Stop these teardrops" mais aussi "Yes I've been crying", "Voodoo man", "You're gonna make me cry", "Wrappin' up your love" (également publié dans l'anthologie "Antone's women"), "It's a miracle", "Tin Pan Alley". Always active musically in the 60's and 70's (while practicing various jobs), Lavelle moved to Chicago where she became the regular attraction of Kingston Mines between 1978 and 1986. She participated in the Blues with the Girls tour in 1983. She came back to Houston and performed regularly at Antone's club in Austin (She was introduced to Clifford Antone by Evelyn Johnson who worked at Duke-Peacock). For her first recordings in 30 years, she benefits of the beautiful production of Sarah Brown and Derek O'Brien. Around her, we find superb sidemen like Clarence Hollimon, Derek O'Brien, Mark "Kaz" Kazanoff, Riley Osbourn, George Ramis, Sarah Brown. His voice is remarkable, inspired, irreproachable. A beautiful re-reading of her "Stop these teardrops" but also "Yes I've been crying", "Voodoo man", "You're gonna make me cry", "Wrappin' up your love" (also issued in "Antone's women" anthology), "It's a miracle", "Tin Pan Alley". IT HAVEN'T BEEN EASYAntone's 1996 |
Engraved in Austin with the same team of producers and musicians as the sumptuous "Miss Lavelle". Yet, the result appears much less intense even if the record is not without good moments (the cover of "I've never found a man to love", "Wootie boogie", "Mississippi my home"). His voice remains deep and faultless. |

INTO THE MYSTICAntone's 2003 |
Pour autant, le programme contient de nombreux excellents moments comme la belle lecture de "Livin' for the city" de Stevie Wonder mais aussi "Watch what you do to me", "Lord I want to thank you", "Computer blues". Un album inspiré et remarquablement varié. More Soul-Blues-Gospel covers and fewer personal compositions. The program contains many excellent moments such as the beautiful reading of Stevie Wonder's "Livin' for the city" but also "Watch what you do to me", "Lord I want to thank you", "Computer blues". An inspired and remarkably varied album. |
