Tout en accompagnant John Primer et Koko Taylor sur leurs albums respectifs, Matthew propose son second album bien supporté par un groupe convaincant (Sid Wingfield, Al Brown, Tim Austin, Will Crosby, son frère Larry ainsi que le français Vincent Bucher). Pour l'occasion, il propose des compositions percutantes comme "You don't even know", "Chicago wind", "Delta combat zone", "Grew up on vinyl", "Broke and hungry" et se montre brillant à l'harmonica. Après s'être consacré aux activités de sideman et de producteur, Matthew revient à sa carrière de leader avec cet album. Il le co-produit avec son compère français Vincent Bucher et propose quelques belles compositions personnelles comme "Big box store blues", l'autobiographique "Blues immigrant", "Story of greed", "The devil ain't got no music", ainsi qu'une belle reprise de l'instrumental "Blue lights". After devoting himself to sideman and producer activities, Matthew returns to his career as a leader with this album. He co-produced it with his french pal Vincent Bucher and offers some beautiful personal compositions such as "Big box store blues", the autobiographical "Blues immigrant", "Story of greed", "The devil ain't got no music", as well as a nice cover of the instrumental "Blue lights". |
