Après le Brown Sugar Blues Band, Paul forme en 1976 son propre groupe qui joue entre Rock cuivré et West Coast Blues. Excellent harmoniciste mais chanteur moyen, il propose ici, un premier album très inégal dans lequel on retient "My eyes keep me in trouble", "Would you baby", "Don't leave your daddy at home". After the Brown Sugar Blues Band, Paul formed his own group in 1976, playing a blend of brassy Rock and West Coast Blues. An excellent harmonica player but an average singer, he offers here a very uneven first album in which standout tracks include "My eyes keep me in trouble", "Would you baby" and "Don't leave your daddy at home". |

En janvier 1990, Paul est arrêté pour trafic de drogue et passe 41 mois en prison. Il réussit, néanmoins, à graver cet album avec son groupe. Particulièrement inspiré à l'harmonica, Paul (qui compose tous ces titres) propose un programme très consistant : "Merry way", "Ain't that right", "The other one", "Chalk and roll" sans oublier les excellents instrumentaux pleins de feeling "Oat bran" et "Second hand smoke". On note qu'en son absence, son groupe tournera sous le nom de No DeLay Band avec la chanteuse Linda Hornbuckle à la place de Paul. Le CD Evidence "Take it from the turnaround" reprend l'intégralité de l'album. In january 1990, Paul was arrested for drug trafficking and spent 41 months in prison. He nevertheless managed to record this album with his band. Particularly inspired on harmonica, Paul (who composed all the tracks) offers a very consistent tracklist : "Merry way", "Ain't that right", "The other one", "Chalk and roll" not forgetting the excellent and soulful instrumentals "Oat bran" and "Second hand smoke". It's worth noting that in his absence, his band toured under the name No DeLay Band with singer Linda Hornbuckle replacing Paul. The Evidence CD "Take it from the turnaround" contains the entire album. |

Pendant sa détention à Sheridan, Paul trouve le temps de graver un nouvel album pour le label local Criminal. Encore une fois, l'inspiration est présente et son jeu d'harmonica (chromatique et diatonique) fait la différence. On trouve une poignée de morceaux remarquables comme "I can't quit you no", "What's the big idea", "I missed you bad", "I want the man gone", "Don't feel nothin'". Le CD Evidence "Take it from the turnaround" reprend la plupart des morceaux de l'album mais omet trois titres. During his detention at Sheridan, Paul found time to record a new album for the local label Criminal. Once again, inspiration was evident and his harmonica playing (both chromatic and diatonic) made all the difference. It features a handful of remarkable tracks such as "I can't quit you no", "What's the big idea", "I missed you bad", "I want the man gone", "Don't feel nothin'". Comme le titre de l'album le suggère, Paul délaisse, un temps, sa ville de Portland pour le son de Chicago. Accompagné de Rockin' Johnny Burgin et de son groupe, il délivre un album intéressant, effectivement marqué par le Chicago Blues. On apprécie, en particulier, "Beatiful bones", "Brave woman", "Leave me alone", "Come on home" (avec Zora Young), "What's coming next" (avec Jimmy Dawkins), "Great big kid". As the album title suggests, Paul temporarily leaves his hometown of Portland for the sound of Chicago. Accompanied by Rockin' Johnny Burgin and his band, he delivers an interesting album, indeed marked by the Chicago Blues.
