Sa mère Flossie Franklin connaissait le célèbre pianiste Leroy Carr. A 11 ans, le jeune homme commence à jouer de la guitare. Bien qu'il ait été souvent surnommé "Guitar" Pete Franklin, il fut aussi un excellent pianiste. En cela, il se rapproche beaucoup de son mentor "Scrapper" Blackwell, originaire comme lui d'Indianapolis. A Chicago, Pete accompagne de nombreux bluesmen comme Saint Louis Jimmy, Jazz Gillum, John Brim, Tampa Red, Sunnyland Slim. Sur cette anthologie, on retrouve les deux premiers morceaux en leader de Pete Franklin : "Casey Brown blues" et "Down behind the rise".

Although he was often called "Guitar" Pete Franklin, he was also an excellent pianist. In this, he is very close to his mentor "Scrapper" Blackwell, a native of Indianapolis like him. In Chicago, Pete accompanies many bluesmen like Saint Louis Jimmy, Jazz Gillum, John Brim, Tampa Red, Sunnyland Slim. In this anthology, we find the first two tracks of Pete Franklin as a leader : "Casey Brown blues" and "Down behind the rise".

Installé dans sa ville d'Indianapolis, il partage son temps entre son travail à l'usine et la musique. Redécouvert par Art Rosenbaum, il trouve enfin la possibilité d'enregistrer un album complet co-produit par Kenneth Goldstein. Un disque composé de nombreuses reprises de Curtis Jones, Doctor Clayton, Leroy Carr, Tampa Red qu'il interprète de manière très juste. Mais, on y trouve aussi sa composition la plus célèbre : "Guitar Pete's blues". Un LP aujourd'hui rarissime.

Settled in his hometown of Indianapolis, he divides his time between his job at the factory and music. Rediscovered by Art Rosenbaum, he finally found the opportunity to record a full album co-produced by Kenneth Goldstein. A disc composed of many covers of Curtis Jones, Doctor Clayton, Leroy Carr, Tampa Red that he interprets rightly. But, there are also his most famous own composition "Guitar Pete's blues". A rare LP today.
