Le South Memphis String Band est composé d'Alvin "Youngblood" Hart, Luther Dickinson et Jimbo Mathus. Le trio fait revivre la tradition des string-bands d'antan en reprenant quelques standards (Mississippi Sheiks par exemple) et proposant aussi quelques compositions originales : "Jesse James", "Old hen", "Worry 'bout your own backyard", "Let your light shine on me", "Bloody Bill Anderson", "Eighteen hammers".

Au trio de base s'ajoute pour cet album un quatrième membre nommé Justin Showah. Pour autant, la musique reste la même : un cocktail de blues, airs folkloriques ou traditionnels impeccablement joués. "Turnip greens", "Jimbo Jambo land", "Can you blame the colored man", "Black" figurent parmi les titres les plus notables.

To the basic trio is added for this album a fourth member named Justin Showah. However, the music remains the same : a cocktail of impeccably played blues, folk or traditional tunes. "Turnip greens", "Jimbo Jambo land", "Can you blame the colored man", "Black" are among the most notable titles.
