Teddy est né dans le Third Ward de Houston dans une famille de musiciens (son père et sa grand-mère jouent du piano). Il commence à se produire très jeune dans les clubs de Houston. Devenu un pianiste expérimenté, il est remarqué par Henry Hayes. Grâce à celui-ci, il enregistre une poignée de titres pour le label Sittin' In dont les excellents "Walking the floor baby", "Why baby why", "You put the voodoo spell on me", "Helpless for your loving". Dans les années 50 et 60, il entre souvent en studio derrière des artistes texans mais très peu en tant que leader. Il joue ainsi derrière Bobby "Blue" Bland, Big Mama Thornton, Albert Collins. Teddy grave un simple pour Mercury en 1958 avec le guitariste Johnny Copeland. En 1961, il enregistre un album complet pour le label Crown (intégralement repris ici). Après ces séances, Teddy passe au second plan et n'enregistre plus guère sous son propre nom (le bon "Ain't that soul" pour Specialty). Teddy was born in Houston's Third Ward into a musical family (his father and grandmother played piano). He started performing at a very young age in Houston clubs. Having become an experienced pianist, he was noticed by Henry Hayes. Thanks to him, he recorded a handful of titles for the Sittin' In label, including the excellent “Walking the floor baby”, “Why baby why”, “You put the voodoo spell on me”, “Helpless for your loving”. In the 50's and 60's, he often entered the studio behind Texas artists but very little as a leader. He plays behind Bobby "Blue" Bland, Big Mama Thornton, Albert Collins. Teddy recorded a single for Mercury in 1958 with guitarist Johnny Copeland. In 1961, he recorded a full-length album for the Crown label (completely compiled here). After these sessions, Teddy faded into the background and hardly ever recorded under his own name (the good "Ain't that soul" for Specialty). |

Living in Los Angeles since the early 1960's, Teddy Reynolds found the opportunity to record a complete album for the Crown label run by Jules & Joe Bihari. Teddy delivers danceable music between Rhythm & Blues and Rock & Roll accompanied by Phillip Walker on guitar. We particularly appreciate the bluesiest track "I thought the war was over". |
