Auto-produit sur son propre label VJM, Vasti Jackson est aussi un bon chanteur et un guitariste au jeu puissant. Dans ce disque remarquable, il se montre également un compositeur doué entre blues contemporain ("Monkey Di Doo", "That's it I quit", "383 emergency", "No borders to the blues", "The fix it man") et blues traditionnel ("Train rolling blues", "Casino in the cotton fields"). Self-produced on his own VJM label, Vasti Jackson is also a good singer and a powerful guitarist. In this remarkable record, he also shows himself a gifted composer between contemporary blues ("Monkey Di Doo", "That's it I quit", "383 emergency", "No borders to the blues", "The fix it man") and traditional blues ("Train rolling blues", "Casino in the cotton fields"). |

La qualité sonore est assez moyenne sur ce disque. Vasti lui-même semble aussi moins précis à la guitare. Des longueurs et de nombreuses reprises peu inspirées (Jimi Hendrix, Muddy Waters, Bob Marley). The sound quality is quite average on this disc. Vasti himself also seems less precise on the guitar. Toujours son propre producteur, Vasti joue ici de presque tous les instruments ce qui ne l'empêche pas d'avoir une belle liste d'accompagnateurs néo-orléanais derrière lui (y compris une section cuivres). Impeccable à la guitare tout au long de l'album, il délivre un blues puissant cuivré construit avec beaucoup d'inspiration. Encore une fois, il compose une série de titres superbes : "Blues booty", "Stimulus man", "Extra special", "My computer", "No pay day", "Only so much oil" ainsi qu'une jolie reprise de "Angel of mercy" d'Albert King. Certainement, son meilleur album jusqu'à maintenant. Always his own producer, Vasti plays almost all the instruments here, which does not prevent him from having a nice list of New Orleans accompanists behind him (including a brass section). Impeccable on guitar throughout the album, he delivers a powerful brassy blues built with great inspiration. Again, he composes a series of beautiful titles : "Blues booty", "Stimulus man", "Extra special", "My computer", "No pay day", "Only so much oil" and a nice cover of Albert King's "Angel of mercy". Certainly, his best album so far. |

Large mélange d'influences entre Rhythm & Blues, Blues, Reggae et Soul-Funk à la mode New Orleans, l'album contient quelques moments intéressants comme "Southern girl", "Brother's keeper", "The taste of New Orleans", bien qu'il soit vraiment moins abouti que "Stimulus man". Large mix of influences between Rhythm & Blues, Blues, Reggae and Soul Funk in a New Orleans style, the album contains some interesting moments like "Southern girl", "Brother's keeper", "The taste of New Orleans", although it is really less accomplished than "Stimulus man". |

Comme à son habitude, Vasti continue une carrière en indépendant sur son propre label. Ici, il joue de la plupart des instruments seulement rejoint sur certaines pistes par de rares invités (dont le claviériste Joe Krown). Le programme est varié, en mode acoustique comme en électrique. Vasti compose l'ensemble avec goût même s'il manque certainement un peu d'originalité par moments. On peut retenir les sympathiques "Casino in the cottonfield", "Rollin' and tumblin'", "The blues don't discriminate". As usual, Vasti continues an independent career on his own label. Here, he plays almost all instruments only joined on some tracks by rare guests (including keyboardist Joe Krown). The program is varied, in acoustic mode as in electric. Vasti composes the whole with taste even if it certainly lacks a little originality at times. We can retain the nice "Casino in the cottonfield", "Rollin' and tumblin'", "The blues don't discriminate". |
