Dès la fin de l'année 1945, Walter démarre une carrière en solo enregistrant pour différents labels comme Queen ("Mean old world", "I'm glad to be back", "Fine brown baby"), Signature ("Open the door Richard"), Mercury ("W.B. blues" avec son ancien patron Jay Mac Shann), Capitol ("Work don't bother me", "Suppressin' the blues") et Peacock. Originally from Texas, Walter Brown joined Jay Mac Shann's band in 1941, becoming his lead singer.
