CAROLINA BLUESDocument July 1937 / October 1946 - September 1947 |
Come on in here mama", "Let her go God bless her"). Little Boy" Fuller ("Shake your stuff", "Bed springs blues", "Pack it up and go"). Born both in Chapel Hill, they grew up in Raleigh where the family moved around 1920. Their parents were musicians. Influenced by the early recordings of Reverend Gary Davis, the two brothers team up and form a duo that performs in the Durham area. They made also the defining meeting of "Blind Boy" Fuller with whom they cut their first sides in New York in july 1937 ("Come on in here mama", "Let her go God bless her"). But after this first experience, which was unsuccessful, Willie did not record until the 1970's. Richard continued for Decca ("Come on baby") and later for Savoy under the pseudonym "Little Boy" Fuller ("Shake your stuff", "Bed springs blues", "Pack it up and go"). |

BLUE AND RAG'DTrix July 1971 - December 1973 |
Un disque de haut niveau avec plusieurs superbes moments comme "Trying to find my baby", "You have mistreated me", "Shine on", "I love you sweet baby", "Goin' to the country". Engraved during several sessions organized by Pete Lowry, the disc is issued on his Trix label. More than thirty years after his last recordings, Willie has lost none of his guitar skills in his traditional Piedmont style influenced by "Blind Boy" Fuller. A high-level disc with several great moments such as "Trying to find my baby", "You have mistreated me", "Shine on", "I love you sweet baby", "Goin' to the country". Note that Richard Trice was also recorded by Pete Lowry at the same time but the sessions stay unfortunately unissued. |
